Painting Gorgeous Glowing Landscapes in Oil

In this 3-day workshop, master painter Scott Mattlin will work closely with students in demonstrating and helping them paint beautiful, tonal landscapes that seem to "glow from within".

Scott will do numerous step-by-step demonstrations; as well as providing each student with individual instruction.

Students can expect to leave the workshop with at least one completed painting;.. and possibly two!

Scott's workshops provide a truly enjoyable, relaxed and casual atmosphere where students can expect to see and use many of the exact same techniques that Scott uses on virtually every one of his masterful paintings.

We will be working from photographs, just as Scott does;...- learning how to transform interesting photos into beautiful artwork through the use of design, composition, and color choices, as well as using oil paint to create beautiful surface texture.

Class size will be limited. Scott's classes are very popular, and we would recommend that if interested;.. you register well in advance.

Still Life Painting Workshop With Rick Hodgins

Austin artist, Rick Hodgins will teach a workshop at Red Palette Art Center in Humble, TX on April 7, 8 and 9, 2011. His rich oil paintings done in the old masters style are stunning. He has studied with a host of fine artists including Jeff Legg, Jean Chambers, Gerald Brommer, Arne Westerman and Sonya Terpening. He studied extensively with David Leffel of The Art Students League of New York and his workshop promises to be fun and informative.

Rick is represented by The Gallery at round top, TX, The M.A. Doran Gallery in Tulsa, OK and Buffalo Trails Gallery in Jackson Hole, WY.

The cost of the three day workshop is $325. To hold your place send a $100 deposit to Red Palette Art Center, 409 E Main, Humble, TX 77338 by the March 31 deadline.

Our First Painting With Panache

Our First "Painting With Panache" was a great success.

Carita was the instructor accompanied by her assistant Randi. Someone broke out the champagne and we made a toast to the success of the new

"Painting With Panache" friday nights.

Everyone there enjoyed themselves. As someone commented "their inner child was coming out, and it felt good". As you can see we all came out with vastly different painting even though we all started from the same instructions. Some flowers turned into dog paws and some imaginations went completely wild.

We had fun that's what's important. "Painting With Panache" is a form of therapy. A time to unwind. So get the baby sitter lined up for next Friday night and

meet us at 7pm down at the Red Palette.

"Painting With Panache" is every Friday night at 7pm - 9pm ish.

WOW! Where did all the people come from?

We really didn't know what to expect. We just threw some things together and hoped for the best. We are still amazed and overwhelmed at how many people showed up ( and it wasn't just our family).

Lots of great art

Lots of food, wine and fun.

We met many new people.

It was so full inside that we had people out side as well.

Here's what you missed if you didn't get to make it when the frame guy came.

Lots & lots of frames. Many styles and sizes.

He has frames that work well with many styles of painting. So its a good idea to stock up on some even though you may not have a painting to go in them yet. Lots of basic gold plein air style frames.

Thank you to all of those who came.

Many of you have asked when he will be back. We are thinking about scheduling him to come back a little before the Fall Kingwood Art Show at the First of November.

Unless we see he needs to come earlier.

1st Life Drawing Class

We kicked off our first Life Drawing Class last Saturday. Our model was Heidi Holzbach. She was an absolute natural at it. We can't wait to have her back. We had a wonderful turnout.

If you would like to join us just come by with your sketch pad and pencils and jump right in. We plan on having a Life drawing class every Saturday unless there is a workshop scheduled. There is a $10 fee to cover the cost of the model and custodial costs. We will start around 10am and go for 2-3 hours.

Its Coming Along

We have been working like trojans to get things going.

Some of us working on site and some behind the scenes.

We all have gone through our garages and attics to see what we have to

contribute like rugs, chairs, tables, easels and art supplies.

Debra built a platform for our models. In this photo above its still in progress.

There will be a picture of the finished platform in the next post.

This is going to be our little mini office.

Thursday was painting day as usual. We took the day off from all the work and painted (sort of). Let's not forget what we are doing all of this for. Painting! Right?

Come Monday, we are going to try to get some artwork hung and displayed.

We are tentatively going to have a Life Drawing Class on Sat, June 12th 10a-2p

This will be our first event held at the art center to get things going.

We signed the lease and are ready to roll up our sleeves and get to work. We've been talking about this for years and an opportunity came around that was too good to pass up.

Here is our "Humble" little place. Small but a great place to start.

Red Palette Art Center

We plan on having the Red Palette Gallery in the front portion of the building where you can come enjoy and purchase art. Have a cup of coffee and hang out.

In the other portion of the building will be the Red Palette Art Center. We will hold painting classes, Workshops, Painting events/parties and receptions.

We plan on having an Artist of the Month and many more events to announce along the way.

Our area had a great need for a place like this and have felt the urge to fill it for several years now. We want it to be a comfortable place to hang out and to come create, enjoy and learn about art.

We will chronicle the process of getting our place ready on this blog, so check in from time to time to see the evolutions of the Red Palette Art Center and Gallery. Before you know it we will be having our Grand Opening.
